Jonathan Levey
Candidate for California's 41st Assembly District

An attorney, former business executive, and currently a teacher at California State University Channel Islands, Jonathan Levey brings a background in public policy, law, and land use issues throughout California to a district that includes the communities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Encino, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Port Hueneme, Oak Park, Santa Monica, Tarzana, Topanga, band portions of Oxnard and Westlake Village.

Real World Experience
One of the nation's premier real estate investment trusts, Catellus' California projects included the conversion of hundreds of thousands of desert acres into a wildlife preserve; Union Station, the hub of the public transit network in downtown Los Angeles; Mission Bay, a 300-acre mixed-use project, adjacent to SBC Park in San Francisco and now home to the world class UCSF campus and the headquarters for California's stem cell research initiative; and 15 acres anchored by the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego.

As Vice President, Levey reported directly to Catellus' chairman and CEO, Nelson Rising. In that capacity, he worked with development teams and city officials on new and existing projects; interacted with senior management and the board of directors on strategic issues; and served as a point of contact for government and civic organizations such as the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the Real Estate Roundtable, and the Bay Area Council.

Prior to joining Catellus, Levey was an attorney with Munger, Tolles & Olson, where he participated in numerous trials and contested arbitrations. He also created the Munger, Tolles & Olson Associates Foundation, through which attorneys at the firm contribute a percentage of their salaries for charitable donations.

Service to the Community
Levey served as counsel to an Assembly Commission on the California Initiative Process, and recently joined an Advisory Committee for Trust for Public Land's Parks for People program. For the past two years, he has chaired The Justice Ball, a young professionals event for Bet Tzedek Legal Services that raises more than $400,000 each year.

Commitment to Solving Problems
Levey graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University in 1991, with a degree in public policy, and cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1995. Levey has written a casebook chapter on licensing and intellectual property issues for Sports and the Law, and has consulted on a variety of stadium finance issues. He also has worked extensively on education issues – as a White House intern, as Special Assistant to Dr. Ernest Boyer at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and as an attorney representing the Clark County (Nevada) School District.
